Pamphonic were
the first company to install a sound system in the Theatre Royal,
Drury Lane, London in the 1930s. From there they developed very
successful sound reinforcement systems using their Line Source Loudspeakers,
clients included many BBC studios, St Pauls Cathedral and other
large theatres.
On the domestic front, Pamphonic's first products
were a super heterodyne radio in 1949, followed by a large radiogram
and a console television, both released in late 1951. From the mid
1950s to the mid 1960s they released a handful of high-fidelity
amplifiers including the UK's first integrated stereo valve amplifier
(1958).
The trail of information on Pamphonic seems to
run out around 1965 so one can only assume that, like so many British
audio equipment manufacturers, they fell by the wayside due to the
pressure of competition from Japanese imports.
