The mono MC-60 was intended primarily for use with McIntosh's C-8, C-4, C104, or C-108 preamplifiers but could be used with virtually any other self-powered control unit with a 0.5 - 2V output. It was a high-quality 60-watt power amplifier with a virtually flat frequency response (20 - 30,000 cps ±0.1dB) and very low distortion (0.3% at 60 watts).

Controls were spartan and consisted of an input gain and hum adjustment potentiometer. A barrier strip was provided for speaker outputs (4, 8 and 16 ohms) as well as 0.5V input. An octal socket was provided for connecting the McIntosh preamplifier. The circuit utilised two rectifiers (5U4) in the power supply and two 6550 output valves.

Priced at $198.50 when new, today these units can fetch prices of up to $1500 or more if in pristine condition with around $800 being the starting price for a shabby but complete and working example.
