Designed for use with the STA-12, STA-15, STA-20 & STA-40 stereo power amplifiers or a a pair of MA-15 or MA-25 mono amplifiers. the SC-2 was first released in 1962 and sold for £27. 10. It was an all-valve design with four controls (bass, treble, balance and volume) and push-buttons for input selection and filters. In October 1962 Hi-Fi News began a series of home-constructor's articles allowing the hobbyist to build hisor her own SC-2.

The 1965 SC-22 was an updated version of the SC-2, almost identical in appearance but with the input selector now a rotary switch grouped to match the existing bass, treble, balance and volume controls. This new control unit was designed for use with Radford's new STA-25 stereo power amplifier and required an external power supply. However Radford did produce a self-powered version designated SP-22P. Two transistors were employed in the SC-22 along with four ECC83 valves. Priced when new at £32. 10 ( £37. 10 for the SC-22P) these elegant units can fetch up to £300 today and are especially coveted for use with an STA-25 or STA-15. The example pictured at right recently fetched £277 ($US 418) at internet auction.
