RCA LMI 32216 mono power amplifier (1954 - 1959) | |||
It was designed to be used in conjunction with RCA's LMI 32215 control unit but could be matched to any preamplifier capable of delivering the desired input signal level (1.2 Volts at 470K). The circuit utilised a special high-gain in the voltage amplification stage, combining the advantages of a cathode-follower phase-splitter with the advantages of low noise pentodes. A total of 40dB feedback was used and two KT66/6L6G output valves were employed. The amplifier had only two controls: Hum level adjustment and Variable Damping Factor. This model was improved upon in 1958 and released as the LMI 32216A. It had an increased power output (20 watts) while still reatining the same output valves (2 x KT66/6L6G) and was marginally larger in size. Priced in the UK at £24 10s when new, these amplifiers are quite rare today and not seen very often in the market place. prices can vary from £900 to £1500 for a pair in great condition. In August 2006 an excellent looking pair described as working as 'good as they looked' reached $US1800.
