The Model 280 was the last of Scott's mono power amplifiers and the most powerful. featuring Class 'A' circuitry and four EL34 (6CA7) output valves capable of producing 65 watts long-time continuous, 80 watts undistorted music power and 160 watts peak. A 'Dynamic Power Monitor' facility was incorporated to reduce the possibility of speaker burnout on continuous overload by limiting the maximum continuous RMS power output to any value between full power and 10 watts whilst still permitting full power on music waveforms.

Dual-level inputs ( 0.5 & 1.5 volts) were provided, each with with level controls and a variable damping control (3% - 200% of load impedance) was also present. flat from Frequency response was claimed to be flat fro 12Hz -60kHz with stable controlled cut-off at both ends.

Eleven valves were used in total: 3 x 12AX7 (ECC83) floating para-phase inverters; 4 x EL34 (6CA7) output; 1 x 6BX7 voltage regulator; 1 x 6AL5 bias regulator and 2 x 5U4 dual rectifiers.

Price when new was $199.95 (from Radio Shack). The Scott 280 was one of the most powerful mono valve amplifiers produced in the USA and comparisons are often made with the Marantz Model 9 of a few years later. However while the Marantz can fetch prices of over $5000 these days, the Scott 280 just doesn't seem to be in the same league, although perhaps it is harder to find than the Marantz. The 280 can be purchased for around $2000 each and I have seen an almost mint pair advertised recently for $3800.
