The S-5000ii featured the same circuits and tone controls as its predecessor, the S-5000, but with a modified output stage utilising the new Novar 7868 output valves, boasted 36-watts per channel compared with the S-5000's 20 watts per channel.

Several cosmetic changes were also implemented into the S-5000ii. The vertical row of buttons on the left-hand side of the control panel were replaced with slide switches running along along the bottom edge of the front panel. The internal layout was also changed; most of the preamp valves were relocated to the front of the unit and screened with a metal cover. A well-filtered DC filament supply and re-designed phono preamplifier combined to provide very low hum and noise whilst achieving one of the highest phono sensitivities of the day.

The original price of $199.50 plus $5.00 for the case made the S-5000ii marginally more expensive than the S-5000 (by $10.00). These classic amplifiers are yet to become highly collectable and therefore make extremely good bargains if you can find one in good condition. Expect to pay between $100 for a shabby, but complete working unit and to $250 for an excellent example.
