The MC-40 was the mono version of McIntosh's highly popular stereo power
amplifier, the MC-240 and similar to the
MC-75 except for output power (40-watts versus 75-watts). Features included
the by-now-standard chrome chassis and large, potted transformers. An
octal output socket was provided for all impedances (4, 8, 16, 125, 150
and 600 )
and voltages with a barrier strip for 4, 8 and 16
outputs.
Frequency response was quoted as being from 20Hz to
20kHz (+0 -0.1dB) and distortion 0.5% at rated output (20Hz to 20kHz).
Priced when new: $159. Today expect to at least $600
for a nice, clean working example and up to $900 for mint condition units.
