The mono integrated 1004 amplifier was a modestly priced unit at £26 5s. It featured a system of plug-in pick-up attenuators to match the phono cartridges of the day (crystal pickups such as the Collaro Studio P and Acos HGP-20; Decca XMS, Ortofon, Tannoy, Goldring 500, Pickering 220 etc).

Power output was 10 watts via two 6BW6s (ultra linear) and frequency response was described as 'substantially flat' from 20 to 20,000 c/s. One pole of the heater circuit was permanently earthed, all but eliminating hum under normal conditions.

A contour control was provided to compensate for low-level listening using the Fletcher-Munson curve; other controls included bass, treble, volume and input selector. the On/Off switch was incorporated into the contour control.

An auxiliary power supply was provided for a Pamphonic FM tuner type 640 (or similar) via a 4-pin plug (6.3V AC at 2 amps and 200V DC at 30 mA) as well as a 2-pin plug AC mains for a gramophone motor.

For further information, view the owner's manual and vintage test report.

Priced in 1957 at £26 5s, today's value would be around £50 - £90 in good working condition.
