Vintage test report

The Pilot 248 was a versatile 30 watt per side stereo integrated amplifier utilising a pair of 7591 output tubes for each channel. Seven pairs of inputs were provided, including FM-AM tuner, multiplex adapter, tape recorder, tape head, microphone, and phono.

Frequency response was claimed to be 20 - 20,000 cps ± 1dB and harmonic distortion less than 0.5%.

A centre speaker facility was provided for Pilot's impressively coined 'curtain of sound'. According to Pilot, when stereo speakers were separated by large distances, a 'hole' in the middle of the 'sonic wall' could cause terrible listening problems. Bring on the 'curtain of sound'!

Priced at $249.50 (including case) when new, today's value would be in the $250-$400 range for examples in excellent to immaculate condition.
