This stereo amplifier was Scott's most powerful integrated valve amplifier, producing 42 watts (IHFM music power) per channel.

Replacing the model 272, the 296 retained the patented "Dynaural" Rumble Suppressor (DNS) twin 5AR4 rectifiers, over-size output transformers and large-format "G" chassis of its predecessor, but the four EL34/6CA7ouput tubes were replaced by KT66/7581's (the 296 was the only Scott design to use these valves).

Early versions of the 296 featured a row of 'mode' indicator lights similar to those on the 272, the majority of examples (like the one featured at right) did not have this feature

Priced at $299.95 (less case) the 296 was $30 dearer than its predecessor and today can fetch prices of almost $2,000 for a fully restored, immaculate example (the 272 is around 25% cheaper today).

See specifications and Owner's manual for further information on this model.
