Sold from 1961-1967, the MC-225 was the smallest of McIntosh's stereo tube power amplifiers from the 1960s and, as the name suggests, produced 25 watts RMS per channel (see also the 40-watt per channel MC-240 and the 75-watt per channel MC-275).

At $198 it was a quite an affordable piece of equipment with an almost flat frequency response of 18Hz-30kHz. Like its bigger brothers, it featured three large transformers atop a chrome-plated chassis with two rows of valves running alongside.

A pair of 7591 output valves were utilised for each channel and distortion was claimed to be less than 0·5% at rated power. Apart from output power and output valves, the three amplifiers (MC-225, MC-240 and MC-275) were very similar.

Price of the MC-225 when new was $198.00 (with cage). Today expect to pay $1,000.00 for a tatty but complete and working unit, to $2,000.00 or more for an 'as-new' example.
