Similar to the SA-232 basic stereo amplifier
but more powerful, the SA-260 delivered 30 watts per channel RMS or 60
watts mono with four EL34/6CA7 output tubes. Music power was 40 watts
per channel for 1% distortion. Designed for use with Pilot's SP-210 or
SP-216 preamplifiers, the SA-260 could be used with any self-powered stereo
preamplifier with around 0.8V output. Individual bias and balance controls
were provided to adjust the output tubes.
The SA-260 was superceded by the SA-264
in 1961.
Priced at $139.50 when new, today these stereo power
amplifiers quite popular, with working SA-260s fetching between $400 (fair
to average condition) to over $700 for an excellent example.
