Rogers Cadet MkII stereo control unit and amplifier (1961-1964) | |
The control unit was attractively styled in brushed brass and matt black with ivory and brass knobs while the power amplifier retained the now familiar Rogers maroon chassis and a hammered silver cover for the transformers. The front panel controls on the preamplifier included three push buttons which selected inputs from radio, disc or tape with a 5 pin DIN socket for tape input/output connections. Next came the large volume and separate on/off switch. Two slide switches provided mono/stereo selection facilities and above these were balance, bass and treble. The designers managed to keep costs down on the control unit unit by limiting the phono input to ceramic cartridges only. The power amplifier utilised four ECL86 valves and a Siemens solid state rectifier. Priced when new at £25 10s (the units were not sold separately); today expect to pay at least ten times that for a nicely presented and working set with prices exceeding £300 for excellent examples. For a more detailed description of this unit, please read the vintage test report.
